We regularly work with distillery clients across Scotland to design and implement Process Safety Management Systems in their multi site operations.
Our approach is based on the elements outlined in the Energy Institute’s High-Level Framework for Process Safety Management which has been successfully applied across a range of high hazard industries.
The requirement for PSM usually comes from a recognition within the leadership team that there are gaps within the organisation’s process safety knowledge, capability and management. A MS isn’t a legal requirement or a ‘catch all’ to prevent incidents, but does deliver a level of assurance through a structured plan, do, check, act approach to manage risk.
Our first step is to review existing processes and systems in a gap analysis. Where relevant, we identify alignment and synergies with their existing safety management system to facilitate ease of understanding with the workforce.
We recommend including PSM MS as early as possible-designing for PSM at the earliest stage ensures the requirements are securely embedded before commissioning.
