Process Deliverables

PROCESS ENGINEERING: PROCESS DELIVERABLES

Our expertise includes creating all the Process Deliverables required for the definition and development of the project.

Basis of Design (BOD) Document

During the first part of the design, the scope of the works and its boundaries, key process parameters and design criteria as well as the product specifications will be captured in the Basis of Design (BOD) document.

Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

In the first instance, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) will be created as a visual representation of the major steps and components in a chemical or industrial process. This information serves as the basis for more detailed design work. During the early stages of a project, PFDs help in making important design decisions. They capture the fundamental design parameters of the process and allow it to assess the overall feasibility of the process, identify potential bottlenecks, and consider alternative process configurations.

Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

The next stage would be creation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Our meticulous P&IDs provide a detailed schematic representation of a chemical or industrial process, illustrating the piping, instrumentation, and control systems involved. They show the exact arrangement of equipment, pipes, valves, instruments, and control systems within the process.

Together with the P&IDs there will be a number of Process lists which include all the elements included in the P&ID such as line list, instruments list, valve list and tie-in list.

Cause and Effect Diagrams (C&E Diagrams)

The relationship between the different instruments and control in the P&IDs will be described in the cause-and-effect matrix. These C&E diagrams are essential in systematically guiding problem-solving efforts with Cause and Effect (C&E) Diagrams. Explore how our tailored solutions enhance communication, facilitate decision-making, and empower proactive problem-solving. Learn more about Process Deliverables with our documentation services that are designed to highlight problems for a simple solution.

An essential element, intimately linked with the P&ID is the mass and energy balance. These calculations allow to establish the requirements for the different equipment used in the process from a flowrate point of view (mass) and also the required heat fluxes (in and out of the system). The M&E balances are a key element in designing an energy efficient design (EED).

Design Complete:

Once the design is complete the Operating Philosophy or User Request Specification (URS) will be written. This document will describe how each of the elements of the system operate. This is a key element that will be handed over to the automation company programming the software that will govern the automatic operation of the plant through the Human Machine Interface (HMI).

What are P&IDs?

Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) are schematic representations that depict the piping, instrumentation, and control systems within an industrial process. These visual diagrams use standardised symbols to illustrate the interconnected flow of materials, energy, and information throughout the system. P&IDs serve as a comprehensive roadmap, providing a detailed overview of the process structure, components, and their interrelationships.

Importance in Industrial Processes

P&IDs play a pivotal role in industrial processes' design, construction, and operation. Their primary importance lies in providing clarity and precision in conveying complex engineering information. By visually representing the intricate network of pipes, valves, instruments, and control systems, P&IDs facilitate a common understanding among engineers, operators, and stakeholders involved in different project stages.

What are P&IDs Used For?

These diagrams are a universal language in process engineering, enabling effective communication and collaboration. They aid in troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and modifications by offering a standardised visual reference. Moreover, P&IDs are integral for compliance with safety and regulatory standards, ensuring that industrial processes adhere to established guidelines.
